Yep, thats the place! Babies R Us! I've been working there for a little over 2 years, and man have there been some rough times but also some really good times. I mean, what job doesnt have lazy associates or crazy anal customers, but even worse at my job they are crazy anal pregnant customers. (the best kind, I hear.. wink wink)
I'm really really ridiculously good looking!
One of my best friends also works at the store with me (thank God Nickie is still there or I would have some serious going to work with a smile pasted on issues). Nickie Kurip, this paragraph is for you! ;) When I started working at BRU in September 2006, I was only 18 and was just moving out of the house, shy as ever, until I met Luella (Nickie) Kurip! My sister worked at the day care where Nickie's daughter goes to, and told me that I should start being friends with Nickie, 'cuz she was the bomb (like tick..tick..) So I took my sisters advice and started having short conversations with Nickie. She had been with the company for 2 years before me, and so she had alot more friends than me and it was hard to really fit in at first. But, of course, we put all differences aside and have been best friends ever since. :) We are friends with other people that work there too but we have just connected better. And I mean, look at how much fun we have had together! (The picture says it all)
Every job no matter what it is has at least one BAD thing. Mine has at least 10, maybe more. But lets just start with 10. (We can add more later if we need to.)
#1 Laziness of associates... PET PEEVE NUMERO UNO as well for me... It's retail, there is always something that needs to be done. If you dont know a department, ask to learn it. Don't just sit on your butt all day while the rest of us get paid to bust our butts. Don't coop yourself up in the office all day, we know your not working in there. You're not fooling anyone but yourselves.
#2 Guests and the new Return Policy.... you knew it changed, we told you 2 months in advance, so why are you still coming in and wanting to return things? You know its 90 days, not 96, not 165, not even 91... 90!!!! Also, why do you open them, use them, damage them, and then tell me there is "nothing wrong with it"? Of course, there is something wrong with it, you used it and broke it... deal with it!!
#3 Those guests that ALWAYS want to talk to a manager... you have told the guest 40 billion times NO and they insist on talking to a manager, of course you get the manager and what do they say right off, YES! Whats up with that?!
#4 The vending machine not having any good snacks and not changing out the old nasty snacks... no one likes the Chilli Chesse Fritto's or the 2 year old gum. Get us good freaking snacks! Like, those one Big Texas Cinnamon Raisin rolls..mmm!!! And take out that old Juicy Fruit gum that tastes like black licorice and is harder than rocks. It's like I'm chewing nails.
#5 The associates who pawn a guest on you because they don't want to help them or it's not their department... First, I'm being honest now and saying I am a hypocrite because I have done this before, I'm not saying I'm proud of doing it but it has happened...in the past! Just don't do it. I understand if you're new and dont know anything about anything, but if you've been working there at least 6 months, you pretty well know where everything is. And if you are new, stay there with me, so you can learn about the product too. Just dont give me your problem guest, I dont want their drama too.
#6 Ok, speaking of drama... dont tell me your problems...associates! I dont care if your roomates sister's boyfriend's, mom's, step child has an eating disorder and you want to help her out. I dont care! Sorry, I will act like I do but I really couldn't care less. Keep your problems to yourself and keep them quietly, no one wants to know either.
#7 Dont talk about my friends that I work with behind their back to me... Yeah, she's a horrible worker and is kinda slow at times but she is something special to me. Just dont gossip, it makes you look dumber and really immature.
#8 Be fair with everyone... If I'm late, you're gonna yell at me... If she's late, you will slap her hand and say, "Bad girl, dont let it happen again!" Say what? Yell at that girl too! She's late more than I am! Equal opportunity employer... remember? You dont judge upon religion, race, background, gender, yaddi yaddi yadda!!! Just be fair!
#9 TURN THE MUSIC BACK ON!!!!!! I cant stand to hear the off-key songs other associates sing...OUT LOUD!!! I dont care what kind of music you put on...just put something on!!! I cant take it anymore!!! I need music in that place, please!!! ANYTHING!!!
And... #10 Be true to your word... if you say you will do something do it. Make it happen. If I ask for something, I want you to be real to me and tell me straight up what you think. Dont lie to me and tell me I'm sure to get the position and over a MONTH later, hear nothing back from anyone! If I'm not doing a good job, tell me! And if I am, tell me! And give me the position already!! I've been over in that department for over a month and I've been told by other associates that it looks better than it did before. I get the question everyday, "Have they given you the supervisor position yet?" Answer, "No, they are still thinking about it!" GIVE IT TO ME!!
I love my job, I really do! Best part, all the babies and small children that come in. I could just live to make babies smile, who in turn make me smile. That is the best part of my job! And Nickie, of course! :) It's a good place to work, most of the time! Not the best 2 years of my life, but hey, thats life! Boo yah!

I learned in church that there should NEVER be the best 2 years of your life, because each year should be better than the last! For example, marriage, children, friends, etc...
Ah the life at the BRU... how I miss it so... kind of. I do miss all my friends (like you!) but just like your top ten, I don't miss those things. Love ya and I'm glad I stumbled upon your blog.
